Why music has to be titled? Why is
there a opus no.? Are we not going to issue a piece of music If there is no
title and no opus no. for it or just have to wait until we have one? Music is a
great art as it surpasses meanings and feelings that could be expressed by words
or pictures and that's why I make music.
From time to time, I always have dreams with new music and naturally some of them won't have any title or name suitable, my company asked me to think of a name so that the music could have a name for people to call it or simply easier for people to associate what should be expressed in that music. I do not see such need and so I do not make a title or name simply I don't want to. Most of the time a title always restricted people's imagination about a piece of music of art. ''Music Untitled'' is a category I invented for myself to place those pure music without any better name I could think of and I never want to make things solely for the sake of making it. I hope that a piece of music without a title would brings the audience more imagination and feelings which I think is a crucial living element of a good piece of music or art. Benjamin Ma 2002 ¡@ |
